Barcelona was given the chance to recruit Neymar, another one of their former superstars, after they were unsuccessful in bringing Lionel Messi back to the team this summer.

The Brazilian icon’s time at PSG appears to be coming to an end, and rumors stated that he was interested in going back to Barcelona, whom he left in 2017 in a transfer worth a record-breaking €222 million.

According to a new report from Mundo Deportivo, Neymar’s reps made the summer offer to Barcelona along with super-agent Pini Zahavi, who gets along well with the club’s president Joan Laporta.

Neymar’s representatives saw a chance to assist him in getting a transfer back to Catalonia when Messi decided to join Inter Miami over Barcelona. In addition, the Brazilian was made available to the La Liga winners during the current transfer window with Zahavi’s involvement.

However, for two reasons, Barcelona quickly rejected the opportunity to re-sign the Brazilian superstar.

According to the article, the technical team of the Blaugrana did not have any concerns about Neymar’s caliber because manager Xavi Hernandez had even interacted with him on the field.

The PSG star was, however, turned down for a number of reasons, with money being one among them. It would be expensive to bring him in from the Ligue 1 champions, and paying him would present a different set of problems, particularly given that Barça is having trouble complying with La Liga’s FFP rules.

Second, because Neymar can be a polarizing personality, the Catalan heavyweights did not want to disturb the peace and comradery in the locker room by bringing him.

The coaching staff won’t change the squad’s close-knit dynamic, which Xavi fostered over the course of the past 18 months.

This summer, Barcelona passed up the chance to bring Neymar back.
