Dominik Szoboszlai's agent has been speaking to Hungarian media and he revealed the ins and outs of his client's transfer to Liverpool that was years in the making.

One of Hungary’s top young football agents, Mátyás Esterházy, was in charge of arranging Dominik Szoboszlai’s move to Liverpool. From the start of Szoboszlai’s ascent, the former goalie turned agent followed it closely and was instrumental in advising and pointing his client in the proper way.

When Szoboszlai’s transfer to Liverpool was formally confirmed on Sunday afternoon, the efforts of the two and Szoboszlai’s father, Zsolt, paid off. Since then, this has dominated media coverage in Hungary. Szoboszlai’s transfer to Anfield has naturally received a lot of attention since it became the most expensive Hungarian transfer in history.

Esterházy spoke with the well-known 24.hu daily publication after receiving a barrage of inquiries and provided exclusive information about Szoboszlai’s move to Liverpool.

To our great joy, it turned out that Liverpool also decided in favor of Dominik and the enormous investment required for this, and the player also decided in favor of the club. “We were in contact with several clubs, we talked specifically with several about projects, intentions, and money,” Esterházy said.

When asked if it was difficult to reject the chance to represent a team in the Champions League the next year, Szoboszlai’s representative replied that his client’s decision was driven by the long-term project at Anfield.

Liverpool’s participation in the Europa League didn’t present any challenges because, unless in the most exceptional circumstances, we only consider the immediate future to be a year. I don’t believe anyone needs an introduction to Liverpool as a club, Jürgen Klopp as the head coach, the team’s supporters, or the stadium. What they represent for the world of football is obvious. This club, in my opinion, is an excellent decision in every sense.

This transfer has been a long time coming for Esterházy and Liverpool. Szoboszlai’s representative disclosed the club had followed his client for a considerable amount of time prior to making a direct request for his services, just like with previous targets.

“Because Liverpool follows every picked footballer for a considerable amount of time, it has been a while since Liverpool first made contact. During our time in Salzburg, we had previously been in touch with one another. However, this time around, things really got going on Monday of last week. At that point, we were already discussing specifics and how to handle this company.

The importance of his journey leading up to his move to Anfield was emphasized by Esterházy, who also stated that his client’s ascent to the top required years and years of laborious work.

“Everything can really seem easy from the outside,” he remarked. “Because his playing appeared to be incredibly fluid when he was on the field for the national team or the Bundesliga. But that is not at all how the process works. I am really happy for Dominik because of this.

“Because he is the one who has put in the most effort over a long period of time and completes the most challenging jobs. He had to leap over the stairs. He now needs to blend in in his third country and defend himself in his third dressing room, all of which result in plaudits for his work at the end of the day.
